Domaine des Berthiers

“In France there are just three large prestigious appellations for white wine: Chablis, Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre. The others are too small to have an economic impact.” Joost de Willebois chose viticulture by taste, or rather, by destiny. “Our family has the wine gene!” Yet no predisposition seemed apparent. An international economist at Shell, then at Butagaz, he became a banker at ING, then president of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and vice president of the biggest stock exchanges in Europe. But once he became an enologist, his destiny caught up with him.  He acquired a domaine in Touraine, and everything really got going … when he became the owner of Fournier, the coveted terroir which pulls the others along! Thanks to his choices, and the Pouilly terroir, his wines are available in 68 countries.
